From matinees to happy hours, Beachcliff Market Square is still the spot to be for afternoon fun - and more. The one-time Beachcliff Theater, which opened in August of 1937 and was a thriving art deco style move theater, is now home to Burntwood Tavern, a thriving restaurant featuring rustic vibes and American fare, pub grubs and specialty drinks.  Many attributes of the theater still stand in the restaurant, but the theater marquee’s is a city favorite. It is still lit nightly, with specials and holiday wishes from the Burntwood Tavern team, lead by General Manager John Burkhart.

Burntwood Tavern Rocky River opened in 2011 and joined the Chamber the same year. This is the second tavern to open and now part of 12 total Burntwood Taverns opened from Ohio to Florida.

Burkhart joined the Burntwood Tavern group in 2011, working at one of their many restaurants, and he has been leading the team as General Manager for 3 years.  “It's well advised to join the Chamber within the community you operate a business. It creates relationships and helps you network your business,” Burkhart shares. He appreciates the relationships and camaraderie the Rocky River Chamber has brought to Burntwood Tavern.

Whenever the Chamber needs a helping hand, he is always happy to get a call and will accept the challenge with a smile on his face. Burkhart helps with the Chamber’s Golf Outing as an event partner and sits on the Christmas Party Committee, recruiting raffle items, volunteers and inviting fellow restaurateurs to participate.

FUN FACTS about John: He resides in Olmsted Township and is one of seven siblings…. “I’m #5 if anyone is curious!”! All of his siblings still reside in Northeast Ohio. Burkhart has been married to wife Debbie for 16 years Debbie, and they have two sons – Brandon [15 years old] & Ryan [14 years old], and two dogs. He enjoys fishing all species [but his favorite is steelhead trout fishing in the rocky river], camping and the local professional sports teams.
