Chamber Luncheon VIRTUAL - August 2020
Join us for the August Chamber Virtual Luncheon, sponsored by Ohio Educational Credit Union.
This month, we will welcome Dr. Param Srikantia, professor at Baldwin Wallace University’s School of Business as our guest speaker. He will return to the Rocky River Chamber as he presents “Staying Awake in a World That is Sleepwalking.”
More about “Staying Awake in a World That is Sleepwalking:”
We are often victims of an undiagnosed condition called existential somnambulism in which we seem to be physically awake, often accomplishing much by way of tangible action but psychically and emotionally asleep, living our life in a trance-like state.
Pink Floyd fans may readily recognize the parallels to the sense of "quiet desperation" permeating their rendition of the rock classic, "Time" from the prism album.
Years roll by, we keep chasing goals and dreams that lose their significance the moment they are attained and then we are frantically running again, reaching nowhere in particular. As a nation, we venerate speed and efficiency, and many of us are always going as fast as we can in multiple directions. And, many of us don't even stop to examine where we are going and why. The modern industrial world is one gigantic treadmill we are chained to, running as fast as we can -only to be stuck in the same place.
Modern life does little to awaken us from the multiple trances we fall into - the trance of wealth, the trance of knowledge, the trance of power and prestige, the trance of professional expertise, the trance of efficiency and so on. This talk will gradually enable us to become comfortable with being unoccupied, and this is the first step to unlocking the mystery of our deeply hidden potential.
This August Chamber Luncheon will be different that past years. We will still be welcoming all new teachers in our community with welcome bags [click here to learn more about donating to this effort!], however the teachers will be busy preparing for their year ahead, with many changes in store.
Welcome bags will be safely delivered to schools after Labor Day. And, an update from each school with a list of new teachers will be shared with the Chamber.Date and Time
